Sad. The show ended 12 years ago. It isn't going to air ever again. The reboot is just something Mark and Kelly keep floating around. ABC would have picked it up years ago if it was going to happen.

Absurd she is getting a LIFETIME achievenent EMMY when so many more deservubg, enduring daytine stars don't have one. Rosemary Prinz, Jonathan Frid to name 2. It's just a thirst trap to get people to watch a very boring ceremony and have Shemar there to re-create the truly GREAT moment she did win in 99.

Wasn't "Pine Valley" actually more of a "spin-off" as opposed to a a reboot of "All My Children" anyway?
Doubt it will happen, but I'll give Lucci some slack here, because COVID shut most projects down in 2020 for quite some time, and then the recent union strikes had similar impact.

Also, who the fuck is Rosemary Prinz? Hello. Anyone. Anyone. Bueller. Bueller. Susan’s the fucking Queen of Daytime Drama for Life. Everyone, whether they watched soaps or not, know who Erica Kane is. You hateful bitches!

Adding to what R5 said, how many daytime soap stars have ever been popular/well-known enough to host Saturday Night Live? I think Lucci is it, a list of one.

Isn't Susan Lucci something like 80 years old now?
by Anonymous | reply 7 | December 12, 2023 8:41 AM |
Susan Lucci has certainly done well for herself, given her very modest acting talents.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | December 12, 2023 8:43 AM |
Jonathan Frid, R2? I love Dark Shadows, but he was on a soap for four years and royally screwed up his lines in every episode.
Susan Lucci played Erica Kane for the entire lifespan of All My Children (41 years) and was nominated for the Emmy 21 times. She's far more deserving of the honor than Frid. She's also still alive to show up!

[quote]Also, who the fuck is Rosemary Prinz? Hello. Anyone. Anyone. Bueller.
Rosemary Prinz is best known for playing Penny Hughes on ATWT from 1956 to 1968 and returning for short visits several more times over the years. Penny was a wildly popular character and was part of one of the very first soap super-couples, Jeff and Penny.
Because Prinz was so popular, Agnes Nixon hired her to help launch AMC in 1970. Prinz played Amy Tyler, the wife of Lincoln Tyler and the sister of Ruth Martin. The Amy character was actively involved in protesting the Viet Nam War, a first for a character in daytime. Prinz was only there for six months, but had above the title billing for throughout her time there.
In 1974, she also stared in the short lived NBC soap How to Survive a Marriage.
She later went on to play Sister Mary Joel on Ryan's Hope.

Thanks Mona, but it's useless to explain history to morons who think soaps started with Luke and Laura. Lucci is an icon, but pre-Daytime Emmys and the production standards of the late 60's-mid 70's being upgraded, Lucci should acknowledge those who came before her. She was AMC when Prinz was there. Eileen Fulton and Robin Strasser were just as esteemed for playing the 'bitch' as Lucci was. Hell, Fulton understood p.r. far better than anyone in soaps had before she came around. As for Jonathan Frid, 'Barnabas Collins' is EVERY FUCKING BIT as famous a soap character as Erica Kane. He was mezmerizing and if he flubbed his lines from time to time, it was forgivable. Not even Barnabas had as embarassing a storyline as confronting a bear ala Erica.

We will see a reboot of The Secret Storm before we'll ever see any form of All My Children back on air. Lucci is just doing what she does very well, milking her fan base.

I'm sure it's being considered. Doesn't Peacock have a daily soap right now? And Amazon has revived Neighbours for Freevee. The streaming business has matured. Now that everybody on earth subscribes to at least two streaming services, the focus is less on gaining viewers with a shift to just keeping customers. (Daily) soaps may be just the right way to keep people attached to a service. We'll see if Freevee's and Peacock's shows get enough viewers to survive. If they can, I'm sure All My Children and all the other dead soaps will try a comeback.

The Daytime Emmys are and have been a joke for nearly their entire existence.
They have been so unfocused about Lifetime Achievement Awards. I could name 25 performers, easily, that should have been awarded LAA's in the last decade or so, but most are now dead. They did one mass awarding while many of those folks were still alive, but so many more deserved it.
Yet again, it's all about Susan.

ABC still owns All My Children.
If ABC ends up doing a sequel series called Pine Valley, it most likely would air weekly in ABC prime time schedule or on streaming services that ABC's parent company, Disney, already owns -- Hulu or Disney+.
From everything I read, the Pine Valley sequel was always intended as a weekly series, never as a daily show.

[quote]The Daytime Emmys are and have been a joke for nearly their entire existence.
The Daytime Emmys were first given out in 1974, four years after All My Children premiered.
GENERAL HOSPITAL and DAYS OF OUR LIVES had been airing since 1963 and 1965, respectively.
However, it was in the '80s and '90s that the Daytime Emmys (and soaps) were most popular.
They were held in big venues with a red carpet and press coverage and got decent ratings akin to the Primetime Emmys.

Unfortunately, the Prospect Park reboots were ahead of the streaming curve by about a decade. Viewers willing to watch shows that way has increased every year since, and one could argue that it's basically the preferred method to watch these days, especially daily soap operas.

Sweetheart, Jonathan Frid was a terrible actor. He had a very short shelf life and was pretty much forgotten by 1972. And it was more like "from time to time" he actually got his lines right. It would be like giving Bobby Sherman a Lifetime Achievement Grammy.

R43 your fucking ignorance is all you offer. Frid was a classically trained stage actor who found - like Batman's Adam West - typecasting hell. I have no clue how old you are, mentally I'd guess 11, if you don't know how overworked the man was, not just with the 'acting' but the promotion of DS, and the MGM movie which was a HUGE hit, don't compare him to Bobby Sherman. LOL. The AWFUL Johnny Depp DS movie had Depp offering a part to his 'hero' Frid, then also casting Christopher Lee in a tiny, meaningless part. Frid knew it was all b.s., even though he died shortly after. Frid put his mark on daytime tv, he is deserving of recognition. Execs got the message there was a youth audience out there.

Susan is estranged from her daughter Liza which is so sad. She made a point of thanking her son Andreas for being with her at the ceremony while her daughter went totally unmentioned. Liza was estranged from her dad as well prior to his passing. Liza and Susan don’t follow each other on Instagram. Susan gives off major Valerie Cherish vibes but seems kind hearted. Since Helmut’s passing, I feel so sorry for her. She seems a bit adrift and I’m sure this award meant the world to her. She’s likely a little depressed today. Poor thing.

by Anonymous | reply 55 | December 16, 2023 7:22 PM |
Whatever the rift, Liza was fudging things when she wrote that they've been estranged for 10 years. You can find photos of them together into 2019. And that year, Susan even posted a photo and message on National Daughter's Day (who knew that was a thing?) where she wrote how proud she was of Liza.
by Anonymous | reply 56 | December 16, 2023 7:35 PM |
While Lucci thanked her son Andreas and of course, mentioned Helmut, while failing to mention Liza at all.
No idea what caused the rift, but I found myself thinking that Lucci could have so easily said, "Liza, I miss you and I love you" during the speech. Here was a perfect opportunity to try to heal the relationship and she didn't use it.
The fact La Lucci didn't do anything like that indicates this is not a one sided feud.
